Dear Family, Friends, Associates and Loving Caring Strangers, By now most of you know, but some of you are hearing for the first time about the tragic accident that happened to our beloved Larry Dubey on Saturday January 10, 2009. On that beautiful sunny day our dear friend Larry was having a fun time snowboarding at Mammoth Mountain, CA when he fell and broke his neck. He was airlifted to a hospital in Reno, where he underwent surgery on Monday January 12th. He broke his C5, C6, C7 vertebrae which resulted in severe damage to his spinal cord. Larry is now a quadriplegic with a chance of having some movement in his shoulders and elbows. He is currently breathing with the assistance of a ventilator attached through his neck, which doctors believe to be temporary. Larry is now on the long hard road of recovery and therapy.
Those of us that have been blessed to have Larry in our lives know what an amazing individual he is. His brilliant mind, amazing smile, sense of humor, that twinkle in his eyes and his incredible way of telling stories are what make him such a remarkable human being. If anyone is going to make a strong recovery, it is going to be Larry. You can stay updated on Larry’s recovery and leave comments for him by visiting http://superdubey.wordpress.com, a blog that will be updated by Larry and his family. Also, feel free to contact Larry’s daughter Lauren at lauren.dubey@gmail.com. We encourage you to share this letter with other people who may want to lend their support as well. From the bottom of our hearts we Thank You! With love and appreciation, Some of Larry’s closest friends! Donations can be made out to Lawrence Dubey, and mailed to: *Please note on the memo line of your check that it is a “Gift”. The above photo was taken minutes before Larry participated in his first triathlon at age 56 in the 2008 Malibu Triathlon. He came in 806th, and much to his delight, he was not the last man in his age group.
